How to Pay for Long-Term Care [VIDEO]

So what happens when you get a new diagnosis? It can be overwhelming toCare can be expensive—long-term care costs can exceed $120,000 per year! We’ve saved our clients significant amounts of money. For example, one client saved over $27,000 a year because we helped him secure Medicaid benefits for his mother.

Will you be able to pay for long-term care when you need it—or when your elderly parent or in-law does?

It’s a common misconception that regular Medicare covers long-term care—it does not. The good news is there are four areas where we’ve found success in finding money to pay for care:

  1. Medicaid/Medi-Cal: Have Medicaid benefits been explored or received? If not, we can review eligibility together. 2025 will usher in new eligibility criteria. More older adults qualify for some form of Medicaid than one might think. There are even different types of Medicaid that carry different qualifying criteria.
  2. Veterans Benefits: Has your family member served in the military? There may be untapped benefits. Did you know with the passing of the PACT Act a couple years ago it expanded the number of Veterans who may be eligible for benefits. Some of these benefits include caregiver support and financial awards to assist with covering long-term care needs and costs.
  3. Long-Term Care Insurance: If a policy exists we can assist in exploring how to leverage the policy.
  4. Life Insurance: Some policies can convert into long-term care funding—do you have one in place?
